the second release on tb arthurs (312) label finds the mysterious artist revealing a collaborative project with magda as blotter trax. the pair first encountered each other at the famous motor city record store record time, when detroit artist bmg introduced his then co-workers magda and derek plaslaiko to arthur, who was visiting the shop from chicago. sometime after that meeting, magda and arthur went into the studio and jammed together for a week, the session was recorded live on analog 1/4 tape and then three tracks were selected for release. 1a is six and a half minutes of modulated synth sounds that are psyched out and sci-fi, spooky and truly atmospheric. full of cerebral cinematism, acid lines and ghoulish textures all add up to a truly standout track. 2a then marries dark wave pops and clicks, unsettling alien lifeforms and menacing, slo motion industrial drums into a physical and imposing groover riddled with paranoid sirens and drones. last of all, 2b snakes and slithers its way through undulating drums, cosmic freakiness and gloopy synth sounds that are all seductive and subversive in equal measure. this, then, is a truly fascinating pairing.

as the label continues to serve up mouthwatering house and hip hop, d3 elements now dips its toes into more techno leaning territory with a series entitled technologie. the first release comes from american d marc cantu under his lesser known rival alias and features three tracks of hypnotic and widescreen grooves.

nice price deal !!! meteorythm recordings is back with a new file, mf002 geometry of the mind ep by imprint’s co-founder, clearvision. to start, the a side about uncertainty (and unity)’ leaves you doubtful, in a disoriented feeling of expectation. perfect to start your set or a personal journey inward, this ambient track allows you to create your own thinking pattern about what will follow. the a2 ‘geometry of the mind,’ an atmospheric and melancholic track, conveys clearvision’s thought processes by playing with floating pads on deep bass frequencies. on the b side, ‘wave function’ is the logical continuation of the two last tracks, concentrating on rhythm in order to be more focused on the body than the mind. to conclude, the berlin based duet arcarsenal followed suit, evolving ‘wave function to another level of groove by adding a beautiful percussions harmony to a perfectly rearranged production. after developing their musical personality on imprints such as underground quality, finest hour, rue de plaisance, finale session and of course their own bass cadet records, the duo perfectly found how to combine their own style with the space atmosphere that surrounds meteorythm.

so when stu gardner was rounding up a late night studio session, putting the finishing musical touches to a t.v production he had been commissioned for, he thought he would use the last few hours to record one more song. wow are we glad he did. “don’t fight the love” is making movements in the disco circles and with the modern soul boys. an unnamed female vocalist gives you the performance of her life! this had been sitting dormant until 1980.

the next cellar session result is dropping on franse and provides a dystopian summer soundtrack. shifted layers and drum machine patterns act as the usual suspects on this one-sider, laying the foundation for a ubiquitous but never fully arriving synth line. vinyl only, hand-numbered and limited to 170 copies.

according to white material pair galcher lustwerk and alvin aronson, their first collaborative album under the studio ost alias contains a mix of breezy electro, aquatic dub, high speed jit, and shimmering atmospherics. while clearly tongue-in-cheek, it s a fairly accurate description. certainly, there s a fluidity, moodiness and palpable sense of atmosphere at the heart of scenes, which casually drifts between hard-edged club workouts, hazy post-club fare and dreamy, horizontal experiments. it was apparently recorded over a three-year period, during jam sessions at various new york studios. its the spontaneous aspect of its creation that has the biggest effect, and makes the whole thing feel like fleeting snapshots of moments in time.

reviously unreleased schizo post-punk/moogy folk score to 1983 british tv scouse-ploitation drama one summer (remember billy and icky?) from the vault of kate bush, serge gainsbourg and david bowie’s best-kept secret session man alan parker. inducing abject fear in protective parents and a street smart swagger amongst clued-up youths, this adaptation of a coming of age pastoral thriller by a reluctant willy russell broke new boundaries pinpointing a cultural teenage void between post punk activism and the acid house years while arguably giving thatcherite telly addicts a tiny kick up the arse. scored by legendary kpm/de wolfe library musician alan parker, this score retains a genre defying personality, pinpointing the stylistic essence of the era while successfully switching from barren rumble fish funk, pastoral moog noodlings, pentangular folk, 80’s post-punk rhythms with hints of dubby

on the first side rumore and orphidal are opening the release with a 115 bpm proto-ambient track filled with liquid grooves and tribal elements while in the second cut they are showing us their faster and deep-acid side with conversations.
on the other surface autre is killing it with filter sessions 329, a mental techno trip did while experimenting with his new filter bank, an 808 and a juno 106. the b2 is an elegant track with a fred p-esque touch, suitable for every kind of dance floor.

when we started heist a few years back, our idea was to give a stage to talent in a same way as we have had a helping hand by the labels that have supported us from the beginning. therefore, i’s our pleasure to share this release with you by newcomers ouer, a berlin based duo with only a handful of tracks out so far on their self released debut last year. their approach to producing is very much jam based, and with a compact collection of synths, drum machines and a fair level of distortion, they succeed in creating their own sound with hints of classic electronic music from chicago and detroit. theres a nice mix of energy on the whole ep, the ascent being the most driving track of the package. fans of classics mcde tracks will love show off with its dreamy dx7 style chords and cracking acid lines. move over feels like a jam session that was way too much fun with some lovely solo work on the synths, whereas mess around goes down in similar free-ride style on the synths and again, has some lovely sampling going on. an impressive ep were just all too happy to have on our label. sincerely yours, lars & maarten

berlin-based techno-producer snitch strides on with the second pneuma-dor release and simultaneously the beginning of the „pneuma-dor ground studies“ series. »the uncertain machine« is a dancefloor-suitable techno record originated from pure analog & energetic hardware live-session.

the 1978 record, which goes for up to $800 on the collectors market, comes with a lore all its own. the liner notes explain that at the time of its recording, davis was suffering from personal turmoil and a head full of memories from the vietnam war. the infamous jonestown, guyana mass murder occurred two days before the recording session and weighed heavily on his consciousness. the resulting electronic score would garner attention from legendary motor city dj electrifying mojo. in the early 80s, davis performed as 3070 in cybotron alongside juan atkins, laying the groundwork for detroit techno and electro with cuts like alleys of your mind. despite successful cybotron albums released on fantasy records, davis spent time penniless and abandoned in a v.a. hospital. the new 12inch version of methane sea was cut to lacquer straight from the original master tapes. davis currently lives in ypsilanti, michigan and works with music videos, fractal designs and cgi.

with two releases already under his belt on clone, gary gritness aka slikk tim lands on hypercolour with the sugar cane chronicles vol. 1. gritness may be a relatively new name on the block, but his session work for artists like kenny bobien, louie vega and grant nelson has marked up this multi-instrumentalist as a clear talent. hailing from france, gritness had been spotted by underground resitances mad mike banks as one to watch, and on his hypercolour release, displays a deft hand of producing futuristic funk sounds. a spot on blend of raw drum programming and blissfull jazz funk riffs, preachin some tight game sets the eps tone just right with its infectious melodies and cruising groove. darker 1980s soundtrack vibes are explored on stayin strong hand with its thick analogue atmosphere, whilst the laid back and freestyle vibes of working girls demands to be played in the cadillac with the top down! ep closer, fly shit, continues with the tranquil melodies and g-funk factor.

aïsha devi s of matter and spirit lp encapsulated the spiritual metamorphosis and transcendental journeys of this other-worldly figure. of matter and spirit remixes offers a series of new perspectives on the sonic wonders hidden within. irish duo lakker’s take on anatomy of light adds a heavy dose of syncopated percussion. recent ninja tune signing throwing shade transforms kim & the wheel of life into an introspective session. the remix ep boasts two reworks of mazdâ . berlin s mind:body:fitness interprets the track as a whirlpool of trance, and the spooky killing sound version features mc/vocalists rafael shafique and bogues. the collection enhances and twists the ethereal beauty within of matter and spirit and leads this singular, meditative artist straight into the ritualism of the dancefloor

the first spinning plates ep back in february was picked up by print media and radio tastemakers from ra and dj mag to b.traits and moxie, whilst djs as diverse as ivan smagghe and francois k slotted it into their dj bags. as such there has been much demand for a second release, and now it arrives in the form of a fascinating split ep from scene veteran andy rantzen and relative newcomer bruno schmidt, who helps a&r for the label. in fact it was bruno who came across andy’s tracks during a late night youtube session. andy, who remixed inxs and severed heads back in the day and is a sydney based producer who has been active for three decades, had upped a load of his old demos to youtube in the faint hope that one day someone might find them. and damn are we happy he did, because they are brilliant affairs that sound like little else. for his part, bruno has been a louche resident and hifi creator alongside andrew james gustav and gwenan and delivers an exceptional stripped down late night trip/early morning trip.
